Jamie Douglas Taylor, 48, of Butler, Missouri, passed away on
January 28, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, following a courageous
year-and-a-half battle with esophageal cancer and related medical
complications. Cremation, with a
Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date. Arrangements
entrusted to Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Memorial

Jamie was born on February 1, 1977, in Kansas City, Missouri. He
graduated from Harrisonville High School, Class of 1995, and went on to
dedicate nearly three decades of his life to public safety and emergency
services—a calling that defined both his career and his character.
In 1997, Jamie began his career with the City of Lee’s Summit,
where he served until the time of his passing. Throughout his tenure, he held
multiple roles, including fire dispatch, law enforcement dispatch, and radio
system specialist. His leadership and expertise extended statewide through his
service as President of the Missouri National Emergency Number Association
(MONENA), a Chapter Life Member of the Missouri Association of Public Safety
Communication Officials (MOAPCO), and through service on multiple international
APCO committees.
Jamie also served his community as a Firefighter and EMT with
multiple Cass County agencies from 1995 through 2024. Whether behind the scenes
or on the front lines, Jamie was deeply committed to helping others in their
most critical moments.
On October 10, 2020, Jamie married the love of his life, Tonya
Taylor, with whom he shared unwavering devotion and partnership.
Jamie was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Taylor, known to
many as “Doug,” and by his first wife, Emily Taylor.
He is survived by his cancer companion dog, Auggie; his wife,
Tonya Taylor; his mother, Vicki Taylor of Harrisonville; his brother, Daniel
Taylor (Carrie) of Harrisonville; his sister, Kristi Diamond (John) of St.
Joseph; his daughter, Alexis Richardson of Savannah; his son, Kristopher Taylor
of Harrisonville; his step-daughter, Hailey Brunner of Butler; his cherished
grandchildren, Steven and Travis Richardson of Savannah; and several nieces,
nephews, friends, and extended family.
Jamie will be remembered for his dedication to service, his leadership, and his steady presence in moments when calm and compassion mattered most. His impact on his family, colleagues, and community will continue to be felt for years to come.
