On 5/24/24 at approximately 1:10am Deputies were notified that Kansas Officers were in pursuit of a GMC pickup truck entering Bates County.
The vehicle fled on Y Highway and turned onto 4002. The vehicle
attempted to turn onto State Line Road before leaving the roadway and through a
fence becoming immobile.
The occupant, later identified as Ryan Templeton, 43 fled on
foot from the vehicle. Prior to a K9 getting on scene a Deputy deployed a drone
and located subject in the woods lying in a creek bed. The drone was able to
guide K9 Falco and deputies to the subject where he was taken into custody by
Falco and held in place until secondary deputies could place him in handcuffs.
Templeton was taken to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment of his
injuries from Falco.
The truck was found to be stolen along with the license plate on
the vehicle and another plate inside the vehicle.
Templeton has a very extensive criminal history with multiple priors
for tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. Templeton had posted
bond on an unrelated warrant earlier in the day.
Templeton has been charged with receiving stolen property,
resisting arrest and property damage. Bond was set at $20,000 cash only.
Sheriff Anderson says, “Our priority is to Protect and Serve the
community. Having the appropriate tools and technology is helping us do just
that. I’m proud to work with the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who put
their lives on the line to take career criminals off the streets while most of
Bates County are safe at home sleeping. We appreciate the great working
relationship we have with our Law Enforcement partners across the Kansas line
and appreciate them staying with our deputies to take this subject in custody”
