Senior benefits from partnership with City for internship
Harrisonville High
School senior Aidan Walton is gaining valuable real world experience in the
world of technology through an internship with the City of Harrisonville.
Aidan's journey into
the realm of IT began with a simple connection made at Harrisonville Cares
Coalition meetings, where he's actively involved with the HHS Traction team. Through conversations
with HHS counselor Julie Zaring and City Administrator Brad Ratliff, Aidan
secured an internship in the city’s IT department working with Director of
Administrative Services Jeremy Smith.
According to Smith,
Aidan's fresh perspective has already made an impact on the team. Aidan’s work
involves assisting with user trouble tickets, participating in project
meetings, and learning more about the intricate world of cybersecurity. His
ability to communicate effectively, coupled with a genuine passion for
technology, sets him apart as a valuable asset to the team.
Smith expressed his
gratitude for the opportunity to mentor Aidan.
Aidan spends about two
hours a day at his internship. He said his internship has brought his learning
to action. “I’ve learned how to utilize my education in actual scenarios.”
Aidan plans to attend
Metropolitan Community College at Longview to earn an associate’s degree in
Secure Systems Administration and Engineering (Cyber Security).
