Roger Hal Cornell, 84 of Stilwell, Kansas passed away on January 4, 2024, at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Kansas City, Missouri. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Mana Fellowship Church, 17617 Route 291, Pleasant Hill, MO 64080. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am Wednesday, also at the church. Graveside services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care. Roger was born on November 8, 1939 in Passaic, Missouri to
Walter and Thelma (Webb) Cornell. Roger
attended elementary school in Butler, Missouri and he graduated in 1957 from
Grandview Senior High School, where he was involved in many sports. Roger attended Central Missouri State
University and he was a United States Marine Corps reservist. Roger was appointed to the Kansas City,
Missouri Fire Department in 1961 and he retired with the rank of Battalion
Chief in 1997 after a rewarding career. Roger, a humble and unassuming man, had a
strong work ethic, holding a second full-time job while also working as a
firefighter. Roger continued to work
part-time until his late seventies after his retirement from the Fire Department.
Roger loved to read, study history,
travel, snow ski, hike and bicycle, and he enjoyed taking care of his
yard. Roger was preceded in death by his
parents, son Curtis, and his beloved Yorkie Katie canine, also known as
KTK9.
Roger is survived by his wife of
62 years, Judith (Hunt) Cornell, daughters Leslie (Paul Kies) and Jennifer
(Justin Teiwes), grandsons Christopher Cornell, Jack Teiwes, Brock Cornell and granddaughters
Rachel Kemp and Ava Teiwes. He is also
survived by his sisters Joyce Wead and Jeana Reed and many nephews and nieces.
