Delbert Gerald Fischer, son of Arthur Edwin and
Francesca Rosine (Leimer) Fischer, was born December 19, 1934 on the family
farm near Rockville, Missouri. He
departed this life November 24, 2023 in Butler, Missouri surrounded by his
family at age 88.
Delbert
was baptized January 2, 1935, and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in
Prairie City. His confirmation verse was
Revelation 2:10, “Do not fear what
you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into
prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have
tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the
crown of life.” Delbert attended
school at Rockville through his junior year, graduating from Appleton City High
School the following year. He lived on
the family farm his entire life. Delbert
was united in marriage to Shirley Elaine Seider June 9, 1957, and they were
blessed with four sons. They spent 53
wonderful years together until her passing in 2010.
Delbert
served in the Missouri National Guard for six years. He once had to hitchhike home from training
at Ft. Leonard Wood. He loved eating,
especially Shirley’s cooking and he ate everything she put in front of him. Delbert and Shirley loved playing pitch every
Tuesday night with three other couples.
They always had goodies to snack on and a wonderful time building
friendships.
Delbert
was a faithful member and attender of Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie
City. He held numerous offices within
the church and was a life-long member of “Men’s Club”. He told his boys often that if he had time to
do everything else, he could surely take an hour and a half to attend Sunday church,
and they could too. Two other sayings
that Delbert was remembered for were, “I never had a bad drink.” (no matter what
he was drinking) and “If you don’t got anything good to say, don’t say
anything.” Delbert was a kind, friendly
man, with a special way of speaking that was never boastful or
complaining. In his many years of farming,
he raised corn, beans, wheat, hogs, and angus cattle. In the evenings he often would take a ride
around the farm looking at the crops and enjoying looking at the fruits of his
labor. Delbert’s family was very
important to him, especially his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Preceding
Delbert in death were his wife Shirley, sister Velda Jagels and daughter-in-law
Meghan Marie (Nachbar) Fischer.
Survivors include his sons: Greg Fischer, Lowell Fischer, Kent Fischer
and Darren Fischer; his grandchildren: Jenna Fischer, Jared (Kayla) Fischer,
Hagen (Brooklyn) Fischer, Kinady Fischer, Olivia Fischer and Madison Fischer;
