Sybil Mills, age 85 of Harrisonville

Sybil Mills, 85 of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at her home in Harrisonville. Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, March 6, 2026 in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missoui. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel (816-657-4400). It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sybil Ruth Mills, a loving mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend to many. Sybil was born in Kansas City Missouri on April 30, 1940, to Kelsey and Charlene Zimmerlee. The family moved to Drexel Missouri where she attended Drexel R-IV School and graduated High School in 1959. After graduation, she married Marvin Hocker in December of 1959 and they had 4 children: Pamala, Curtis, Patsy and Peggy. Sybil was remarried in April 1984 to Taylor Mills and remained married through his passing.

Sybil worked as a housekeeper and caregiver for many years. She had a loving heart and was able to share that with those that needed her during their end-of-life journey. She loved to cook for others and at times she would cook for the entire community. Several time during Thanksgiving she would cook large meals at the community center in Drexel and invite all that wanted to attend. She would also ensure those that could not attend got a hot plate delivered to them.

Sybil enjoyed traveling, playing cards and of course spending time with her family. She loved to sing with her grandchildren and make them cookies. She loved a big family gathering that had lots of food, but her favorite food was fried chicken. She loved going on cruises and went on several. She has cruised the Caribbean several times and one of her favorites was Alaska.

Sybil is preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Taylor, several siblings and her son Curtis. She is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamala Jones, Patsy and Mike Stewart and Peggy and Ray Kidd, 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
