What those Symbols Mean on the Wall That Heals

The Wall That Heals, a 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC will be in Butler Mo. beginning 8 am April 30,2026 through May 3rd.

If you would like to make a monetary donation, volunteer or have other questions please contact  Marsha Youngblood at 816-716-9217, John Gray at 816-547-4797 or Jami Page at 660-424-4215

Symbols are used before and after each name that is engraved on The Wall to indicate the service member's status.

The diamond symbol denotes that the service member's death was confirmed.

Names designated by a cross symbol were in missing or prisoner status at the end of the war and remain missing and unaccounted for.  In the event a service member's remains are returned or he is otherwise accounted for, the diamond symbol is superimposed over the cross.

If a service member returns alive, a circle, as a symbol of life, will be inscribed around the cross.

No such cases have occured.
