Senior Airlifted To Kansas City Hospital After Crash On I-49

A Cass County man was airlifted to Kansas City with serious injuries on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, an 18-year-old in a Dodge Ram and a 66-year-old in a Ford Ranger were driving south on Interstate 49. Missouri State Highway Patrol said the 18-year-old was in the left lane and tried to merge into the right lane, but hit the back of the Ford, causing it to start skidding.

The Ford continued off the side of the highway and rolled into the northbound lanes before landing on its wheels. Its 66-year-old driver was wearing a seatbelt but suffered serious injuries. He was airlifted to Research Medical Center for treatment.

The 18-year-old’s Dodge also went off the side of the highway, stopping in the median facing west. He did not report any injuries and was able to drive the truck from the scene. No further information on the accident is available at this time.
