City of Butler hiring City Administrator


 

City Administrator

Lauber Municipal Law, LLC is seeking qualified candidates for the position of City Administrator for the City of Butler, MO (4,201 population). Butler is a full-service community and the county seat of Bates County, located in west central Missouri. Butler is a family-oriented third-class community, located along the I-49 corridor, 50 miles south of metro Kansas City. The City is led by the Mayor and eight City Council members who are elected by the public.

The City:

The new City Administrator will find Butler a friendly, diverse City with a stable government, unparalleled amenities, and municipal services, and the usual challenges and opportunities that are characteristic of thriving and growing community. The City 2023-24 annual budget is $16 million with 65 full time employees and 110 full time and seasonal employees during the summer. Municipal services provided by the City include electric, water, sewer, streets, park, fire, cemetery, police and airport.

The Position:

With the oversite of the Mayor, the City Administrator will act as chief operating officer of the City. The City Administrator will champion the implementation of policies that will guide the diverse and dynamic community on the path to continuous, sustainable growth, while honoring our heritage, history, and small-town culture. This position will act as the chief administrative assistant to the Mayor and will work with the Mayor and City Council annually to define the goals and performance objectives for the City.

Required Qualifications:

                Knowledge of:

o   City Administration

o   Economic development and capital investments

o   Finance budgets

o   Human resource management: Employee relations, hiring, terminations, training, benefits, administration, and salary administration

o   Land use: zoning, planning and economic development

o   Supervisory responsibilities

Ability to:

o   Provide Leadership

o   Build teams across departments

o   Communicate effectively and regularly

o   Manage public meetings and committees

o   Provide exceptional customer service, internally and externally

Required Experience and Education:

o   Minimum of five years of experience in local government

o   Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field (Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements.)

o   Proven experience with Finance and budgeting

o   Preference is given to ICMA credentials professionals

o   Preference is given for experience in zoning, planning and economic development

Salary:   Negotiable, based on experience and qualifications
