On Sunday, August 3, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a fatal crash occurred on Westbound Highway 2 just east of 263rd Street in Cass County. The crash occurred when a 2007 Subaru travelled off the right side of the roadway and began to slide, hitting an embankment. The vehicle then became airborne, striking a rock bluff and overturning before coming to rest on its wheels. The driver, a 38 year old male from Freeman, Missouri, was pronounced deceased by Cass County medics at 7:11 a.m. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the crash.
