Arrest made in Butler


 On 8/19/2025, a K-9 Unit with the Bates County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle traveling southbound on I-49 just north of Adrian. As the vehicle passed the K9 Unit, the Deputy identified the driver as Ernest Schmidt currently of Neveda MO(formerly of Amoret). The Deputy had prior knowledge that Schmidt’s driving status from Missouri was revoked.

The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle. Shortly after the Deputy initiated his lights a bag was thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle continued to drive for another mile then came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway. A second Deputy was behind the stop and immediately stopped to pick up the bag that was thrown from the vehicle.

The bag contained approximately 58 grams of Methamphetamine.

Schmidt has been charged

Trafficking Drugs 2nd Degree a Class C Felony. His bond was set at $50k Cash Only.

Schmidt is currently out of Prison on Parole for Possession of Controlled Substance
