A 44-year-old man from Archie, Missouri, was killed in a crash Sunday morning on northbound Interstate 49 at mile marker 134.6 in Bates County. The crash occurred at approximately 9:08 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The incident involved a 2013 Honda Pilot traveling northbound when it veered off the roadway and struck a storm drain in the median. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, ejecting the driver. The man, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Bates County Coroner Greg Mullinax at 9:21 a.m.
The Honda Pilot was totaled and towed from the scene by Douty’s Tow.
This marks the 71st fatal crash and 79th fatality in the region for 2024. The Bates County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
