Scam Alert From Cass County

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn citizens about scams involving cryptocurrency or gift cards to pay fines, fees, or bonds for warrants.

No government agency, including the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Courts, will ever call and ask for cryptocurrency or gift cards or any unconventional methods for legal matters such as fines, warrants, or court fees. Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible once confirmed, and once money is sent, it cannot be recovered—scammers know this and use it to their advantage. We will never demand payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or any unconventional methods for legal matters. If you receive such a request, it is a scam.
If you suspect this type of fraudulent activity, do not engage or provide any personal information. Report it immediately to our office or local law enforcement. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from these scams.
