With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Karen Janine Bevans, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, “Meme” and friend.

Karen was born on December 10, 1954, the daughter of Edward and Martha Anderson Bevans.

Her vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Affectionately known as “The General” or “Meme”. Karen was a woman of strength and conviction, never afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground. Her fierce love for her family was unparalleled; there was nothing she wouldn’t do to support her children and grandchildren. She took immense joy in spoiling her grandkids, always finding ways to shower them with affection and wisdom.

Karen had a passion for sharing her culinary talents and exceptional seamstress skills, often spending joyful afternoons teaching her grandchildren how to sew and cook. Her kitchen was a place of laughter and love, as she prepared meals that brought everyone together.  Karen was also a perfect party planner and birthdays were special events, with attention to every detail.

In addition to her family life, Karen found fulfillment in her work at Short Street Tavern, where she created lasting connections and memories with those around her.  She took great pride in being a devoted waitress and friend to everyone there.

Karen’s legacy of love, strength, and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, Edward Bevans; her mother, Martha Anderson; her sister, Michele Coigny; her brothers, John Wakeland and Johnathan Wakeland and her nephew Blake Bevans. She is survived by her beloved children: Lee, along with his family—Melanie, Kody, Bailee, Addy, and Hallie; Elizabeth and her family—Daniel, Riggen, Raeth, Robey, Lena, and Orrin; Seth and his family—Rachael, Peyton, and Matilda; and Jedadiah, who is joined by Sara. Karen also leaves behind her devoted brothers, Mark and Douglas Bevans, and her nieces and nephews.
