Saturday night, September 28, 2024, around 11 p.m., the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Unit successfully grappled a vehicle. The driver was an attempted homicide and kidnapping suspect out of Lee’s Summit.
The suspect
was located traveling into Johnson County, MO via 50 Highway from Jackson
County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop, with
Johnson County deputies assisting, but the vehicle failed to yield.
Johnson
County deputies deployed stop sticks that deflated the tires, with the
Warrensburg Police Department assisting in additional stop stick deployments as
the suspect vehicle entered Warrensburg. The suspect continued driving on the
deflated tires, failing to yield and traveled back to US 50 Highway, westbound.
During the
pursuit, the vehicle rammed a deputy's patrol vehicle. The Cass County
Sheriff’s Office was requested to use the Grappler to stop the vehicle.
Reports
indicated the suspect was armed with a handgun, and a juvenile was inside the
vehicle.
The vehicle
traveled to the 1800 block of NW US 50 Highway, driving on rims when Cass
County Sheriff’s Office deployed the Grappler.
The driver
lost control and came to a stop. The juvenile was secured, and the suspect
surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody.
