On Saturday, August 3, 2024, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Bates Couty Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal UTV crash in Bates County. The crash happened at 6:25 p.m. on County Road 13007 south of SW County Road 7008 near Hume, Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 20-year-olds Logan Brooks and Braydon Cannon were riding in a 2023 Polaris UTV when Cannon, the driver, veered off the left side of the road and hit a fence. Mr. Cannon was ejected from the UTV and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Bates County Paramedics. Brooks was reportedly uninjured and refused treatment.
