NEVADA, Mo. — Around 3:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, over 60 firefighters and 20 fire apparatus responded to a fire at the First Christian Church that sits at the corner of Washington and Austin. They found the building fully engulfed with flames shooting through the roof.
They found the building fully engulfed with flames shooting through the roof. Nevada FD requested mutual aid from surrounding cities. After the fire, crews had put up caution tape around the church, and police were on scene. While we were on scene, the fire reignited.
Firefighters had to douse the flames again and were still on scene late this afternoon. City officials said the cause of the fire was determined to be an incendiary fire by the Missouri State Fire Marshal, ATF, and Nevada Police Department, and that the fire is still under investigation.
