Montrose VFW Post 8820 is offering lunches 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. June 26 – 27 and July 2 – 3. The menu for June 26 - brats, fries and drink $12; two brats, fries and drink $15.  June 27 menu is fried tenderloin, fries and drink $15. July 2 menu will be hamburger, fries and drink for $15. July 3 they offer fried tenderloin or burger, fries and drink for $15. All proceeds go to pay for bricks at the pavilion to memorialize veterans at local cemeteries without any family members.

 

River of Life Fellowship in Rockville will have a Deliverance Training Seminar and meetings June 29-30 with Dr. Steve Highlander and Rev. Cody Persell.  Training sessions begin on Saturday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. followed by a light meal and then regular evening deliverance service.  Regular Sunday School and worship Sunday morning begin at 9:30 and 10:15 a.m., along with a special Sunday evening service at 6:00 p.m.  All are welcome to attend any and all of the meetings. Sunday, July 7, they will welcome Wyatt Brown to share in word and song about his testimony and all that God is doing in his life.  All events ROL has are free and they welcome all those able to attend.  They hope to be able to share meetings and future meetings via webcast as well.  Please contact James Damon ([email protected]), at River of Life Fellowship for more information.

 

The 20th Annual Appleton City Car Show will be July 13 in the City Park, right off 52 Hwy across the street from Zink Motor Company. Check in 8:00 a.m.-noon.  Car Show noon-3:00 p.m. This is a judged event. There is a $10 entry fee, with proceeds going to two scholarships for local high school students. Top 85 cars and trucks combined, top 3 motorcycles, and top 3 rat rods.

Zink Motor Co is hosting the KC Antique Car Club at their dealership. Model A’s and T’s will be on display. This event is free.

The AC Fire Department will have a free vintage fire truck and fire equipment show July 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the AC Fire Station.

 

The next Second Wednesdays, Meet Me On Main, Shop and Stroll will be July 10, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm. These special, extended business hours are a great opportunity to see what locally participating businesses, like Jina's Junque, Rural Roots, 3 Wishes, 4th Street Fika, Bluebird Lounge, and Cork & Keg, have to offer, while giving you an opportunity to meet up with friends and make new ones

 

Seven local churches are teaming together to provide a week-long community Vacation Bible School Event: From the Inside Out! VBS will be each evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m., from Monday, July 22 to Friday, July 26. Each night will be hosted by a different church: Monday at Trinity UMC (AC), Tuesday at Rockville UMC (Rockville), Wednesday at Church of God (AC), Thursday at Lutheran Church (AC), and Friday at First Christian Church (AC). This year for VBS, they are going to learn all about our emotions and how God can transform us from the inside out! There will a prize given to all children who have perfect attendance for the week, so don't miss out!  They look forward to seeing you there. VBS is for PK-6th grade, but children under the age of 5 years need to be accompanied by a parent. Unfortunately, transportation will not be provided. A summer kids’ event, Scuba VBS will be hosted at First Baptist Church of AC July 23-26.  SCUBA is for entering kindergarten through those that have completed 6th grade. They will start with a meal at 5:30 and conclude at 8:30 p.m. each evening. Family members and friends can join in daily at 8:15 p.m. as they wrap up their day. They also invite families to church on Sunday, July 28 for the finale and a meal following services. The Appleton City Museum at 503 N. Maple is open every Friday afternoon 1:30-4:30 p.m.  Bring your friends and family to visit the 1880 Moore School, the Clark House and the Museum to learn about early day area history. Membership dues for the 2024-2025 year may be paid at this time at $15 individual and $25 family.  Please support your museum with a membership and a visit this summer.

 

MU Extension is partnering with The Alzheimer’s Association and Four Fillies Mercantile to provide an opportunity for residents to learn strategies to promote brain health and decrease risk of dementia. The Living a Healthy Life for Your Brain and Body program is dedicated to offering comprehensive insights and practical advice on maintaining and enhancing cognitive and physical health as we age. Participants will gain valuable knowledge on how to take proactive steps toward a healthier, more fulfilling life. Strategies for Aging Well include: Cognitive Activity: Discover activities and practices that can help keep your mind sharp and engaged, Physical Health and Exercise: Explore effective exercise routines and physical health tips to maintain mobility and strength, Diet and Nutrition: Gain insights into nutritional choices that support overall health and longevity and Social Engagement: Learn about the benefits of staying socially active and connected with others. Join them at the Four Fillies Mercantile, 11210 MO-13, Lowry City, MO 64763 at 11:00 a.m. July 16 for this free educational event.  Participants are welcome to purchase lunch and explore the shop. The University of Missouri Extension 2nd Annual Sheep and Goats Field Day will focus on small ruminant health awareness program. The event will be held 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday July 12, 2024 at Southwest Research Extension and Education Center, 14548 Highway H, Mt. Vernon, MO 65712. Attendees will have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in assessing small ruminant health, vaccination program, on-farm biosecurity, metabolic diseases, feed & forage options and many more. There will also be hands-on training on fecal egg count, five-point check and FAMACHA score.  Special feature of the event includes lamb cooking with lamb meat tasting for all participants. Registration is required to attend. Registration fee is $25 per participant and includes snacks, coffee, pizza, salad, lamb chops/meatball, and classroom materials. Deadline to register is July 10.
