Gary "Boots" Hoover, 84, Rich Hill

 Celebration of life service for Gary "Boots" Hoover of Rich Hill, Missouri will be 11 a.m. May 11, 2024 at the Rich Hill Christian Church, 300 E. Walnut, Rich Hill, Missouri 64779.  Visitation will be 10 - 11 a.m. May 11 at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Patriot Guard Riders.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the  Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Gary Keith “Boots” Hoover, age 84 of Rich Hill, Missouri died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at his home.  He was born June 21, 1939 to Thomas Glen Thompson and Juanita Ellouise Hoover Clark in Butler, Missouri. 

Boots grew up in Butler, Missouri where he attended grade school and high school.  He lived in Butler before moving to Rich Hill in 1963. Boots was a truck driver for several trucking companies including B&H Trucking for 36 years until his retirement in 1995.  In 1997 he became a school bus driver for Rich Hill School District for 13 years.  Boots was also a Rich Hill Volunteer Fireman from 1968-1987.  He was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, Teamsters Local Union #41 and the Rich Hill Christian Church.  On April 29, 1961 he married Rhoda Lynn Duncan and to this union, two daughters were born.

Boots was known as “Mr. Wonderful.”  He enjoyed archery, fishing, golfing, motorcycles and guns.  Boots was a big supporter of the military, police, firemen and EMS.  He loved to have his “real” coffee at the restaurant or at Cooper’s Garage while the guys held court.   Boots took great pride in his truck and mowing his yard.

Boots is survived by two daughters, Michelle Doty of Rich Hill, Missouri and Melissa Swarens and husband Shane of Rogersville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Karin Simmons, Michael Simmons and wife Christina, Rebekah Calvert and husband Danny, Ezekiel Doty and Jennifer Doty; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Pat Radford of Wichita, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rhoda Hoover on July 23, 2023; a sister, Glenda Thompson; and his uncle, Lawrence “Junior” Thompson.
