The City
of Appleton City is placing a Use Tax Question for online purchases on the
ballot. This tax is based on online out
of state purchases. The tax you already
pay for the online purchases goes to the State of Missouri. With a Use Tax in place, the State is then
directed to return what is the current city sales tax to Appleton City. The Use
Tax will not increase the sales tax,
affect businesses and it is not a loan or a bond. It is the money that citizens
already pay, that can be utilized by Appleton City for the community. There
will be a meeting 6:00 p.m. March 19 at the Park Building to further explain
the Use Tax and answer any questions. The City Council will meet after the
March 19 meeting.
The
voters of Appleton City are being asked to consider a Fire Protection
Association Sales Tax to be on the April 2, 20224 ballot. This tax is a sales tax of ½ of 1% that will
allow the Appleton City Fire Department to replace aging and obsolete
equipment. The monies received will be
designated ONLY for the replacement and maintenance of all equipment. This could include anything pertaining to the
trucks, hoses, individual protective equipment, etc. as is needed by the
Appleton City Fire Department to effectively and safely serve the citizens of
Appleton City. Several of the Fire
Department trucks are over 25 years of age, with maintenance becoming more
intensive and costlier every year and they all need replacing.
