James Buckie Coffman, 84, of Hume

 James Buckie Coffman, 84 of Hume Missouri passed away December 25, 2023 at Medicalodge’s Nursing Home in Butler Missouri. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). A graveside service will follow on Wednesday at 2:30 pm in Lawrence Cemetery, Hume, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. “Buckcie” was born June 26,1939 in Wright County of Norwood, Missouri son of John Melvin Coffman and Ellen Pearl Mosley Coffman He graduated from Norwood High School in 1957.


Over the course of his life Buckie was united in marriage to Wilma Lorene Andrews Coffman March 28, 1958 for 66 years.

Buckie and Wilma started their family in February 1959 with their first son, Elvin Cale Coffman, in August 1961 John Mark Coffman and in August 1968 daughter Cynthia Renee Coffman Willey.


Buckie retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and most of all horseback riding. Buckie and his Uncle Kenneth Coffman Joined “American Endurance Ride Conference” and competed in Endurance racing. Buckie accomplished winning the 1974 National Championship award with AERC and was also reserve champion in 1975. He and his horse Revel D held a record time of 8 hours and 9 minutes for a 100-mile race they held the record up into the early 80’s. During his competition years he rode 2730 miles. His last year racing was in 1990 at a 50-mile race held in Missouri. His love for horses and Mules continued after his retirement from the sport. He spent many hours teaching his grandkids how to ride horses and took them for many rides with his wagon drawn team of mules Corkey and Alice. It was his passion.


Buckie was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Minnie Coffman, Maternal grandparents Jack and Dulcie Mosley. Father John Melvin Coffman, Mother Ellen Pearl Coffman, Aunt Mearl Mosley, Sister June Coffman Yarick, Son Mark Coffman, Son, Elvin Coffman, Grandson Aaron Coffman, Grandson Michael Coffman, Great granddaughter Kayla Novovesky, Great grandson , Malcolm West. He is survived by his Wife Wilma Lorene Andrews Coffman, Daughter, Cynthia Renee Coffman Willey and husband Robert, and their children Lyndsey, Sabrina Willey West and husband Gabe West kids Olivia, Colson West, Cameron Willey. Granddaughter Julie Novovesky and her children Dylan and Bailey. Granddaughter, Meredith Coffman Paris husband Scott Paris, daughter Haley Houghton. Granddaughter Amanda Coffman Jackson and husband Josh Jackson and there kids Peyton, Brayden, Kelsey and Reid Jackson. Great Grandson Tyler, Trevor and Trenton Coffman.

Sister Betty Coffman Dickerson and husband Ronnie Dickerson, Brother Danial Coffman and wife Kathy Coffman, Brother Johnny Coffman and Wife Connie. Sister Judy Coffman Fischer and husband Dale. Brother-in- law Gene Andrews and wife Marilyn and kids and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Buckie Leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well.
