On Friday January 5th, around 6:58 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with the Cass County Sheriffs Department responded to a one vehicle fatality accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 at mile marker 164 near Peculiar in Cass County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when 48 year old Jeffery L. Cox of Raymore, Missouri experienced a medical event while driving and it caused the vehicle to travel off the roadway and strike a tree.
Mr. Cox was transported to Belton Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 2004. Mr. Cox was the Associate Circuit Judge and former Cass County Presiding Commissioner.
Cox was elected to the 17th Circuit bench in 2018 following six years as Presiding Commissioner beginning in 2012. He will be missed by many.
