Dr. Miller Honored for Service as EMS Medical Director and Dr. Crary Ushered In

Dr. James Miller has served as Medical Director for our Emergency Room and Ambulance/EMS departments since around 1999. The family practice physician at Nursery Street Family Care Clinic decided this year that it was time to pass the Medical Director mantle to Dr. Ben Crary.

Dr. Miller was recognized for his years of service on December 18 during a medical staff meeting and was presented with an engraved crystal plaque by Troy Trumbore, ED Supervisor and Russ Whisenand, EMS Supervisor.

Trumbore prefaced the presentation with a few comments about Dr. Miller: "He had a great dedication for the ER, EMS, this hospital and staff. He always could be counted on for good advice, support and great perspective on dealing with issues that might arise. We truly appreciate everything you've done for us over the years."

Dr. Miller will continue to serve as Medical Director over BCMH clinics, a position he has continuously held since 2009 when he became an employee of Bates County Memorial Hospital. He has also served as Chief of Staff at BCMH in 2002, 2005, 2008, 2014, 2018, and will serve again in 2024, taking the reins from Dr. James Wirkkula who is currently serving as Chief of Staff.

Benjamin Crary, D.O., Hospitalist for BCMH, has accepted the position as Medical Director over the Emergency and Ambulance departments at Bates County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Crary has been taking care of our hospitalized patients since 2019.  BCMH thanks both Dr. Miller and Dr. Crary for taking excellent care of our community.
