Stolen Vehicle Chase In Cass County

On Wednesday November 1st at approximately 8:00 p.m., deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of northbound I-49 just north of 291 Highway in Harrisonville.
Deputies noticed the vehicle had a Kansas license plate that wasn’t fully secure — and there was an expired Missouri license plate underneath it.
The pursuit continued northbound on I-49. When the chase got near the J Highway exit, the Peculiar - MO Police Department assisted by deploying tire deflation devices.
These devices did impact the suspect vehicle, but he continued driving northbound after entering the center median.
Shortly after, while back on the road, the suspect vehicle began to lose its tires. That’s when Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies successfully deployed the Grappler. It brought the vehicle to a stop just north of Peculiar.
The driver and passenger were taken into custody without incident. The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department reported the vehicle as stolen. The license plate was reported stolen out of Overland Park, KS.
The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Michael Woodward of Independence, MO. He’s currently being held in the Cass County Jail on warrants out of Grandview and Kansas City, MO.
Charges for this incident are still pending as the investigation continues.
The passenger was questioned and released.
