Meet Me On Main Shop and Stroll on second Wednesdays, will take place November 8 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  The following businesses will be open extended hours for your convenience: Jina’s Junque, Rural Roots, 3 Wishes, Cork & Keg, Bluebird Lounge and the Appleton City Library.

 

St. Clair County Cattlemen’s Annual Meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2023 at Top of the World Barn.  The speaker will be MCA Past President, Patty Wood.  A meal will be provided. Please RSVP to Lawanna Salmon.

 

The GFWC-Achievers 43rd Auction will be held 6:00 p.m. Monday November 13 in the ACHS West Building commons area in Appleton City.  You will find gift baskets, baked goods, great gift ideas, door prizes and a chance to win the jackpot in the 50/50 drawing.  Col. Jack Fennewald will be the auctioneer/entertainer. If you are looking for an evening of fun, come join them. Homemade pie will be served.  Everyone is welcome. As in the past, this group of Federated Women are again raising monies for another local project.

 

Ellett Memorial Hospital and Appleton City Rural Health Clinic will honor our Veterans and their spouses for Veteran's Day on Friday, November 10. The EMH staff will serve a biscuit and gravy breakfast in the dining room from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.   These men and women are very much honored and very much appreciated for all that they have done. Thank you for your courage and putting your country first. Thank you each and every day for protecting our country, for your bravery, and for all that you do to make this country safe. We are grateful for your service and dedication.

 

The Montrose VFW Post 8820 Annual Fry will be held 6:00 p.m. November 10 at the Montrose VFW Hall. The menu includes fried fish, mountain oysters, cole slaw, baked beans, homestyle fries, hush puppies and dessert.  Drinks will be extra.  Adults are $15, children 6-12 $10, children 5 and under are free with an adult. Takeout is available. There will also be gun and crossbow raffles this year. Everyone is welcome.

 

On November 11, the Montrose Class of 2026 is hosting the Deer Hunters Breakfast from 5:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Montrose School cafeteria.  The menu is biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, homemade cinnamon rolls and drinks.  Free will donation will be accepted.  Also, the Montrose Class of 2024 will be hosting a Holiday Mart that will be held in the Montrose School gym beginning at 10:00 a.m. and will end at 2:00 p.m.  Come and see all the creative vendors.  If you are interested in having a booth, the cost is $40.  Contact Jenny Rohaus at 660-351-2465.  It's a great time to get some early Christmas shopping done.  The Montrose class of 2024 will also have a bake sale.

While you're shopping, you can enjoy some lunch sponsored by the Montrose Class of 2025.  Lunch will be served from 11:00-2:00 p.m.  The menu is soup/chili, grilled cheese, apple slices/caramel.  A freewill donation will be appreciated.

The Montrose Class of 2026 is selling raffle tickets for a set of handmade cornhole boards and bags through November 11.  Tickets cost $10 ea. or 3 for $25.  Drawing will be held at 2:00 p.m. during the Holiday Mart at Montrose School.  No need to be present to win. 

 

FarmHouse Kitchen and Sumo's Pub will re-open for regular hours on Tuesday November 7.

 

December 2, the MKT Depot will be open for the Christmas in the County Craft Show. Celebrate the start of the Christmas season by picking up hand crafted items from local artists, candy makers and bakers.  Several booth spaces are available. They would be glad to have you join them.  Contact Patty Bartz by email at [email protected] with Depot craft show in subject line.  She will reply back or mail you an application. The Depot craft show is sponsored by Appleton City Landmarks Restoration, Inc.

 

A jacket was left at the Depot after the ACLR Baked Potato Lunch on October 18. It can be picked up at City Hall during regular business hours.

 

The Montrose boys cross country team finished 2nd at the district track meet to qualify for the State Meet Saturday in Columbia.  Individual qualifiers are Carson Rohaus and Carson Steward.  For the girls, individual qualifiers are Kelsey Carter and Kate Wareham.

 

Many community members have reached out to show support for 8 year old Hudson Logan who was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital on October 14 following an incident while playing with friends.  The following opportunities have been set up by multiple community members: Free will donation fish fry with gun raffle November 4 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Adam Strope’s shop 10300 NW 1001 Rd. Appleton City; Hudson Logan Love Fund at St. Clair County State Bank; Gun Raffle (Remington 870 Shotgun/Henry Lever Action .22) Purchase tickets at Powell’s True Value (Limited tickets being sold); #Huddle4Huddy T-shirts available through Rural Roots/Kalie Dains and Bake sale at the November 3 ACHS football game.

Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 5.  Remember to set your clocks back one hour. Fire Departments also recommend that it is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
