Shooting Investigation In Bates County

On Thursday, October 12th, at around midnight the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a shooting that occurred at a residence Northeast of Adrian just off of E Highway.   Upon arrival deputies made contact with one male subject with gunshot wounds to both legs.    The victim identified his assailant and the location of the shooting.   Deputies arrived at that scene of the shooting and began securing the scene, believing that the suspect was still at the property.

Negotiators attempted to make contact with the suspect and get him out of the house.   Information developed during the investigation that the shooting occurred over a female.   Deputies were unable to locate the female and was unsure if she was in the residence, or injured, or being held against her will.

The Bates County Sheriff’s Emergency Responce Team was called out and a rapid rescue team was formed with entry being made into the house.   One male subject was taken into custody.   He was identified as the suspect in the shooting.  The property was secured and a warrant to process the scene has been applied for.

The Victim was transported to a Kansas City Trauma Center by EMS where he reportedly underwent surgery for his injuries.   He is in stable condition.

The suspect is being held in the Bates County Jail until the conclusion of the investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office is still seeking the whereabouts of the female witness to aid in the investigation.

No further information is available at this time and the scene has been turned over to investigators.
