Appleton City Local News/ Little Apple Notifications

  

AC Museum will host a Baked Potato Bar Lunch October 18 at the Appleton City M.K.&T Railroad Depot from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  The steaming hot baked potatoes will be served with your choice of toppings of chili, broccoli, cheese, bacon and sour cream.  Drink and a serving of homemade cake are included for $8.  Come and visit as you enjoy your meal in the Depot or carryouts will be available.  All profits will be used by Appleton City Landmarks Restoration for maintenance of the 1870 M.K.&T. Depot, Old 1870 Library and Museum Complex.

 

The ACHS FCCLA is sponsoring a blood drive Wednesday, October 18 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Elementary Gym of the AC School, 408. 4th St.  Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome if capacity permits.  Book your appointment at savealifenow.org/group. Meet Me On Main Shop and Stroll will take place Wednesday, October 11 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  The following businesses will be open extended hours for your convenience: Jina’s Junque, Rural Roots, 3 Wishes, Sandi’s Kitchen, Half Baked Take & Bakery, Cork & Keg, Bluebird Lounge and the Appleton City Library.

 

The Montrose Fire Department’s 27th annual Taco Supper will be 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14 at St. Mary’s School.  The menu includes a complete taco menu, dessert, drinks and a 50/50 raffle.  Free will donations will be used to help purchase gear, washer extractor.

 

The monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast at the Appleton City Church of God will be 7:00 a.m. on Saturday October 14.  All the men of the community are invited to join for a time of great food and fellowship.   Dakota Reeder will have a short devotional. 

 

The Appleton City Masonic Lodge will hold their fall pancake and sausage breakfast Sunday, October 15 from 6:30 until 1:30 at the Masonic Lodge. The all you can eat meal is $10 for adults, $7 for kids under 10 and children age 5 and under eat free. There will also be raffles for cash prizes.

 

On Saturday, October 14, Valley Center Church will host their annual Oktoberfest. It promises to be a most delicious evening with serving a German home cooked meal from 3:00-8:00 p.m.  There is also a country store and musical entertainment from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Adults eat for $15.  Children ages 6-12 eat for $3.00. Their address is 930 NE 1126 RD. Deepwater MO. The church is located 3 miles North of Lowry City or 12 miles South of Clinton off of 13 HWY. Bring non-perishable food items and receive $1 off of an adult meal and help support local food pantries.

 

The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, October 15 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m.  Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up.  A free will donation will be greatly appreciated

 

The AC FFA Chapter will hold their annual Food for America demonstrations 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 20 on the High School parking lots. Any community member interested in learning about agriculture is welcome to walk through and hopefully learn a few new things about the world of agriculture. They will have various demonstrations from Agricultural Organizations, as well as working stations put on by FFA members.

 

 

First Baptist Church of Appleton City and Appleton City FFA have paired up again this year to make an impact in the local community by campaigning for canned food and other non-perishable food items to stay local and be donated to West Central Community Action Center's food pantry, right here in Appleton City.  Representatives from both FBC and AC FFA will be out on the afternoon of Monday, October 23 to distribute empty grocery sacks with a note attached on how to fill the sack and when and where to leave it for pickup.  Be on the lookout for those empty sacks on your front porches and doorsteps. On Wednesday, October 25, First Baptist Church Team will pick up full bags on the north side of the city; while Appleton City FFA will pick up all full bags on the south side of the city.  If you live outside of city limits and would like to contribute to this food drive to help offset hunger in families right here in St. Clair County, please don't hesitate to drop off at Appleton City High School/Ag Building. 

 

 “Socktober”, an October sock drive to collect socks for Christmas Box Charity, has begun.  New socks can be dropped off at Zink Motor Co. through November 10

 

Parents as Teachers, along with the Appleton City Public Library and Local Businesses, would like to invite you to join in on their Safe Trick or Treat Tuesday October 24. They will meet in the AC Forest Park and start at 11:00. This event is for ages 0-5 that live in the Appleton City, Hudson and Montrose school districts.
